Does Person Of Interest Deserve To Be Renewed?

What is wrong with some people? How does one judge whether a TV show deserves to come back to TV? It is clear as mud to me, TV shows deserve to come back based on the quality of the story, acting, directing, writing and obviously the amount of fans who want it to happen.

What is clear to many fans, even those who do not think POI should be renewed, is that POI was a unique and excellent example of fantastic, entertaining and thought provoking television. Not all fans want it to return, but perhaps that is a little fear of the unknown going on there. I can tell you that not many fans want the show back with Reese and/or Root. I'm actually one of those fans, however if a reboot were to be made, I would give it a go on one condition, there would need to be at least two or more of the original cast or I don't think I would waste my time.

Anyway, getting the point of this blog, I recently read an article regarding TV shows that deserve to come back. I cannot say I disagreed with much of it, but I was appalled that Person of Interest was not on the list. What the hell is this writer thinking? He or she obviously never watched Person of Interest.

I made a comment on the article and referenced a few shows that I felt did deserve to return. Most of these shows are TV that I've not seen yet, so I am basing this opinion on what the critics have said about these shows.

And yes I know, my love for Person of Interest is my opinion, but come on, no one can deny what a great show it was. It should have been on that list in my opinion. Besides, what makes a TV show deserving of renewal in the fans eyes?

Sure ratings is what kills or keeps a show alive, but as far as many of us are concerned, the ratings really don't give an accurate picture of how many viewers actually watch said TV show. Person of Interest's Live +7 ratings were very high and based on those numbers, it should still be on the air.

Here is an edited version of the comment I made:

I completely agree with those fans asking for Forever to return, I never checked it out because it ended after one season. Hannibal and Firefly was also well supported with petitions signed by many thousands of fans for these shows to return. Person of Interest had a long way to go in terms of story arcs that Nolan had planned. Some of those ideas have gone over to Westworld, but Nolan maintains he would still love to keep making POI and personally for me, I would love to see those stories in Nolan's head played out on screen.

As for Firefly, there has been so much support for it, so perhaps this is why it is number two, was it? And Hannibal was number one? I really think the only reason Netflix has not jumped on some of these shows is possibly the availability of cast and maybe the cost to make some of these shows. Also Firefly was awhile ago and perhaps new seasons just would not work. I have never seen the show so I don't know.

I stopped watching shows that are in their first seasons a long time ago, most of them anyway. I recently tried out Notorious (big mistake) which will be canned; I'm sure of it and then the show-runner ends with a cliffhanger knowing full well their 13 episode season was cut to 10 episodes. I also watch Designated Survivor which I feel very confident will return. It's hard to explain, but I am so tired of getting into a show and then having the show end on a cliffhanger. At least Nolan and co saw the writing on the wall and wrapped up the POI story as best they could and they did do a good job, very smartly leaving little doors of story-line ajar for a return. Loved that show, can't say it enough, for me, it has to come back.

Person Of Interest Voted Number One Two Weeks In A Row On Spoiler TV

Fans all over the world love this show. It has a cult following and based on issue that we face in real life today. Artificial Intelligence is coming, and Person of Interest deals with the pros and cons of this. TV shows that deal with the real issue are refreshing and thought provoking, and the last thing I and the fans of Person of Interest want is to watch mindless, repetitive TV that is so boring, you might as well turn off the telly and read a good book.

While it is hard to believe that a TV show this popular is ending in less than a week's time; unfortunately this is the awful truth.

In the last two weeks, Person of Interest is the number one show viewers chose to watch.

Here are this weeks most popular shows on Spoiler TV.

The Popularity score is based on a calculation of Page Views, Video Plays, Poll Votes, Comments, Google+1's, Facebook Likes and Tweets.

TIP: Remember if you want to see your show do better, make sure you share your shows content on Social Media (Facebook/Twitter/G+/Tumblr etc) and comment on articles/posts about your show.

Note: Shows in Green have moved up the table since last week. Shows with a "-" are new entries that were not in last weeks Top 20.

While it is clear that Person of Interest is loved by many fans, however the CBS network have made their decision based on how much money POI brings in. Because Warner Brothers own Person of Interest, CBS on make money from advertisers when the show airs on their network. Even so, if they had treated POI a lot better and promoted it well, this show would have attracted way more viewers. 

Bottom line, CBS got greedy and moved POI to Tuesday nights at 10 pm, which is a time-slot that TV shows have always struggled to rate well in. Networks can charge higher fees for advertising on Thursday nights. CBS's greed took over when their executive moved one of the shows they own to that time-slot. This backfired in the end, because the TV show they chose for Thursday night did not rate anywhere as well as Person of Interest.

Having said all of this above; Warner Brothers and Bad Robot are just as much to blame for the fact Person of Interest was cancelled. While the fans were fighting to get more episodes for Season 5 and a renewal for Season 6, there was no indication that WB or Bad Robot tried to fight for this show. Are they crazy? Person of Interest is the best show on TV to come along in more than 25 years.

So in closing, I implore Fox, Netflix, NBC, The CW, Hulu, Amazon or TNT to seriously consider picking up Person of Interest. Over 40,00 fans have signed a petition that is asking the other networks to take on this show and given POI's popularity, I and many other fans believe it would be well worth it to them to continue POI for a few more seasons.

With one more episode to go before this amazing series is over, it is extremely difficult to accept there will be no more Person of Interest. Several fans and I have no intention of giving up on the fight to get more seasons of POI or a reboot/spinoff. 

As they say; it ain't over until the fat lady sings; so keep fighting people and call the networks, cable channels, Netflix and the other streaming services.

Is A Person Of Interest Reboot Possible?

This was posted in response to this article about a Person of Interest reboot recently on Facebook, so I thought I would share it.

Did you read the disclosure at the end? This site; TV Guide is owned by CBS. So this article; while it gives me hope given the producers and cast, meaning Nolan, Plageman, Emerson, Caveizel and company say that POI could go on from the finale of Season five. Is it possible it is geared towards all of the fans who are so pissed off that they have effectively boycotted CBS. I know of many fans who have done exactly this. One wonders just how many fans and whether this is affecting the ratings of CBS's other shows.

I also happen to agree with Rita Presto who posted earlier saying that: "Never say never isn't enough for me" She also goes on to say: "I would like to hear some real hope for this great show that I think got the shaft"...Yes, indeed Rita, Person of Interest was royally screwed by CBS. 

CBS do not own it, Warner Bros do, so they were not interested in spending money on promoting the show and giving it the best chance it could at getting great ratings which is the only place there profits were generated. This made no sense to me, even if the show was not owned by the network, why would you not do everything possible to generate more profit.

What they did instead was move it to Tuesday nights after Season 2. They then behaved as if they did not care when ratings fell. They spend little on promotion and basically treated a quality, relevant masterpiece like shit. I also hope that the fans who have stated they will boycott CBS stick to their word. It is about time the viewers were listened to.

I also do not believe Nolan. I do not think he could have possibly finished the story he had planned for POI in a way that he was satisfied with. Especially when he said that he had at least seven or more seasons of story planned for the series. He is saying what CBS want to hear, because let's face it, if you bite the hand that feeds you, you end up paying for it. 

CBS are a huge company and he obviously does not want to alienate a network that can give him work in the future. I would say his comments were made through gritted teeth, because as a writer myself, I would be so pissed off if I was forced to shorten a story I had planned for 44-46 episodes to 13 episodes. So Nolan is paying lip service, in my opinion. I feel truly sorry for Jonah Nolan. 

Not being able to tell the story you want to tell really sucks. I just hope that Season 5 does not feel rushed. I think it will, but hopefully the writers are clever enough to distract the fans from the rushed feeling.

Even though I am not giving up on Person of Interest until I believe there is absolutely no hope of it being picked up by another network, I would love to see something more positive about this, not just speculation that it could happen. 

I really wish that Netflix would comment or at least tell us they are considering picking up the series. Please Netflix, Hulu, Fox, NBC....Please seriously consider starting talks with WB regarding this series, it is the best series to hit our TV screens since Grey's Anatomy in 2005 and this was 12 years ago. Given the lack of good scripted TV available these days, this show is one other networks really need to consider.

And fans of Person of Interest. I know things are looking bleaker for the future of this show, but I urge you not to give up. Please try to watch Season 5 live if you live in the US and please continue to join in and support the campaign to save our show. We cannot do it without the support of the fans, we need you now more than ever, so I urge you to not give up. Not yet!

So, are we giving up yet? Or do we really believe there is hope. Nolan did say that not many of the characters will survive, but there is no reason why they could not bring them back from the dead. Everyone thought Reese and Finch were dead in the beginning, so I am not ruling out this possibility or any scenario that could be used in rebooting the Person of Interest story.
